Poker Terms

Poker is a popular game that has a following of millions of ardent enthusiasts around the globe. The game involves players examining their own hands before making a wild guess as to what cards the other players might have. The different versions of Poker games are Texas Hold'em, Seven Card Stud, Omaha Poker, the Hi/Lo version, Five Card Stud, and Five Card Draw. There are poker forums that provide information about the various terms used in the game. These terms are very confusing and can take players quite to learn. However, knowing these terms is very important, as players have to use them constantly while participating in a poker game, whether they are amateurs or professionals.

The phrase 'aces up' refers to a pair of aces and another pair. 'Active player' generally means a player who is still very much involved in a hand. 'All blue and all Pink' means that a player has a set of five cards that are all spades, diamonds, aces, or clubs. 'Blank card' means that the card has very little value in the hand. The term, 'deal' refers to the act of distributing cards to players or keeping the cards on the boards. It pertains to the entire process from shuffling to dealing of the cards until the pot is finally won by the player holding the best hand.

Other common terms used in the game of poker include discard, drawing dead, flop, Fourth Street, kicker, lock up, loose game, and muck.
