Tunica Poker Games

Tunica Poker games represent the largest concentration of Poker gaming in the South.

Tunica County, Mississippi is one of the country's largest gaming centers, right behind Las Vegas and Atlantic City. You'll find Tunica Count just south of Memphis, Tennessee. In fact, Harrah's Casino, once the Grand Casino Tunica, is the largest gambling resort anywhere in the country outside of Vegas or Atlantic City. Tunica is an easy drive from lots of Southern cities, so gamers in the South can get to Tunica's poker scene without booking a flight.

There are nine casinos in Tunica - Bally's, Fitz, Gold Strike, Harrah's, Hollywood, Horseshoe, Resorts, Sam's Town, and Roadhouse. Of these nine, only Horseshoe, Bally's, Fitz, Gold Strike, Harrah's,Hollywood, and Sam's Town have legitimate poker rooms. The other casinos appear to attract pit game or slot players, many of them boasting about recent slot renovations.

The Horseshoe Casino and Resort has Tunica's most famous room. Founded by Jack Binion soon after the legalization of gaming in Mississippi, this is the poker room that Hosts the World Poker Open. The WPO has been at the Horseshoe since The Flood, and the room draws poker players from all over the world. The room has been expanded twice in the last six years -- there's lots of room for poker. Expect a lot of traffic at their weekly tournaments which offer some of the biggest cash takes in the region.

Another big poker draw in Tunica is at the Gold Strike, where there are daily tournaments featuring buy-ins from $25 to $500. The Gold Strike poker room is non-smoking and has sixteen tables -- the room won the 2007 "Best Live Poker" award in the region.

Harrah's Casino is huge and has been renovated in the past five years to include the largest poker room in the area. Harrah's poker room has weekly tournaments in Hold'em and Omaha, and there's always plenty of cash action running in the giant poker room.

Hollywood Casino and Sam's Town's poker rooms are the "newest" rooms in Tunica County, but the games there are more for amateurs and low limit players. There's only six tables at each poker room, making the rooms seem really small. Look for lots of cash games at both rooms.

There's plenty of poker to be played in Tunica,Mississippi. Be sure to stay in the area to take advantage of local restaurant and bar promotions for Tunica poker players and gamblers.

How Are Online Poker Tournaments Rigged?

Arguments, discussions, and much controversy have existed for several years on whether online Poker is rigged or not. Both sides claim the other side is wrong, and ultimately neither side has prevailed in presenting a credible enough or concrete proof that their theories are correct.

Is Online Poker Rigged?

However, there are simple ways to answer the question, are online poker tournaments rigged? That answer lies in the detectable patterns used by the poker sites, of which are known as poker algorithms. Several scandals broke in recent years where cheating and collusion was discovered by players that ultimately led the poker sites to add in special poker algorithms to prevent cheating and collusion by players.

Some of these algorithms will significantly alter the percentages, the winners, and the outcome of play in online poker. The reason is simple, internet poker is a computer-generated series of codes that is not truly random by any definition of the word. What that means is that by adding in code to the software, the poker sites are essentially changing the possible outcome and make the game less random and more predictable to a player that is AWARE of the patterns occurring in the program.

For example, have you ever noticed in the late stages of a tournament, a shortstack has not played a hand for maybe 20 or 30 hands, then all of a sudden he moves all in and gets called by one or more players. The shortstack will showdown a marginal hand while the callers will have a dominating hand and inevitably the shortstack doubles or triples up by winning with his marginal hand.

Secret Poker Algorithms

This is an obvious pattern often referred to as an equitable percentage algorithm used by the poker sites. The purpose of this algorithm is simply to ensure that a single player does not hold an unfair advantage over other players by constantly winning pots. Furthermore, it also prevents a player from dominating a table or tournament by limiting the number of wins a player may have.

In essence, if the poker site is using additional poker algorithms, regardless of their reasons, they effectively are promoting online poker tournaments that are rigged, because of their interference in the natural and statistical outcome of hands.

Several patterns and poker algorithms are used by the online poker sites to detect cheating and collusion as well as control other aspects of the game. It is important that if you wish to become successful in playing online poker and winning that you learn what these algorithms are and how you can simply defeat them. Otherwise, you will continue to fight a losing battle against a computer-generated program that is purposely designed to minimize your wins.

How to Keep Your Facebook Poker Chips Safe From Hackers and Phishers

With the rise in popularity of Facebook texas holdem Poker games for social networks such as Facebook, MySpace, Bebo, Tagged and Hi5 also came the unfortunate accompanying rise in reports of players accounts being broken into and having their Facebook Poker chips stolen. The forums on these social networking gaming sites are littered with hundreds if not thousands of such reports. As Facebook Poker chips become more and more valuable these reports are set to continue to rise. There are, however, some steps you can take to avoid letting these hackers and phishers get their hands on your hard earned poker chips.

Never give out your password: This seems like common sense but you would be surprised at how many people lose their chips because they gave their passwords to a friend or family member or girlfriend/boyfriend. Are you 100% sure that you wont ever get in a fight with this person in the future and to get back at you they won't log into your account and empty every last Facebook poker chip? Or maybe one day they ask you for some free chips as a loan and you turn them down, and so they decide they're going to log into your account and help themselves. Just make it a habit to never give out your login information to anyone, his way if something ever does happen and your account is hacked into, you won't have to suspect any of your friends or family of doing it and cause any hard feelings.

Don't fall for the phishing scams: A popular method of stealing player's Facebook poker chips recently has been to send them a seemingly official message to their Facebook inboxes pretending to be from Facebook security or an "official" Facebook representative, or even from the game creaters themselves. These fake messages usually accuse the player of violating the games terms of service or Facebook's own rules and then instruct them to click on a link and login in order to save their accounts from deletion or suspension. In reality these links open websites designed to look like Facebook or MySpace's login pages in order to trick users into entering their emails and passwords. Then while the fake website redirects or distracts them, hackers are busy logging into their texas holdem poker account and transferring out their Facebook poker chips into other accounts.

Official representatives for these games or from social networking sites will never contact you via your inbox. These messages should be deleted and reported to the appropriate people so that they can be shut down immediately.

You didn't win any lottery or special promotion for chips: Another method that hackers use to steal your poker chips is the old "lottery" method where they claim you have won a million Facebook poker chips or some other special gift and to claim it you must log in to the link they provide. Just like the phishing scam previously mentioned, these sites only steal your passwords and login information. There is no lottery.

Don't download Facebook poker cheat programs or trainers: Many of these so called cheats for Facebook poker are nothing more than trojan horse virus programs with keyloggers embedded into them. The hackers display them on sites like YouTube or advertise them on Facebook's forums with the promise of doubling or tripling your Facebook poker chips in a matter of minutes. But as soon as you download and run the program and log into your account, a copy of your password is already being sent to the hacker waiting patiently across the internet to use it and break into your account.

Keeping your Facebook chips safe is mostly a matter of common sense, but phishers and hackers are constantly changing their method and coming up with new tricks to confuse and fool players. It's important to educate yourself about security so you know what kind of things to expect and how to avoid them. Above all, never log into any website that isn't the main URL, for example "http://www.Facebook.com" and if something sounds too good to be true or seems fishy, then it probably is.

Psychology of Poker - Book Review

I just finished reading the "Psychology of Poker," by Alan Schoonmaker. As an avid online and offline Poker player and poker blogger, I read as many books as I can on the topic of poker. In my opinion, this is one of the greatest books ever written. This book really focuses on the psychology of the game and why players play like they do and why you play like you do. This book does not cover or basic skills.

The greatest thing about this book is that it skips the basics and focuses on the finer more subtle parts of the game. In my opinion, these are the things you need to know to be a champion. The book is full of original content and is written in a clear and concise fashion. The book is easy to understand and even though the author dives into some complex issues. I also like the chapter that discusses how to make strategic adjustments based on the types of players you are playing. The author has a Ph.D. in psychology and this is great because he is not like every other poker strategy expert, he gives you advice based on quantifiable scientific evidence.

The one drawback of the book is that it basically ignores the topic of online play. As online poker continues to become more popular, I am afraid this book will become less relevant.

In closing, I highly recommend this book for the intermediate to expert level poker player. What you learn will definitely improve your game.

How To Deposit Money for Online Poker

When the United States government put a ban on playing for real money with online gambling sites it hurt a lot of people who used the services to make money. One of the reasons people think that this ban on online Poker betting was put into place was that the gambling industry was making so much money and the United States government wasn't able to tax it and get a cut. Whatever the reasons, those looking to still bet online for real money can sleep easy knowing that there are ways to still do this.

The most popular and convenient way to deposit money onto these online gambling websites is to buy a prepaid Visa card from your local convenience store. These cards come in the increments of $25, $50, $100 and you can pay in cash to buy the cards and have them activated. What these cards allow you to do is that they are looked at as a credit card but are not reloadable.

The convenience of this is that you go to your local convenience store and purchase the amount you want to deposit. The cashier will activate your card at the register and you will then go home and put it to use. Once you deposit all the money on the card it is worthless and you can basically throw it out since there is no money left on it.

The ease of use with these prepaid Visa cards makes this an easy method for deposit real money into your Poker account. Because these prepaid cards are run by Visa they are accepted anywhere Visa is accepted. It would be a bad business move to ban all credit cards around the world so because they will not be doing that anytime soon, I cannot see this deposit method stopping from working.

Stud Poker Rules

Stud Poker is one of the most popular forms of Poker that is played both online and at land-based Casinos. There are several different versions of stud poker, but the most played versions are 7-card stud hi-lo, 7-card stud and 5-card stud. In order to gain a solid understanding of these games you need to first learn the basic stud poker rules. The rules between these versions of poker do not differ too much, but there are enough differences to warrant a few explanations. If you already know one version of poker then this knowledge will help you grasp many other versions of the game.

7-Card Stud Hi-Lo

This game is almost identical to 7-card stud except for a few technicalities. The betting sequence is all the same. However, the highest card on the table starts off the betting round. The biggest difference between the games is that in hi-lo the players with the both the highest and lowest hands will split the pot. This only happens if there is a low enough hand on the table. In order for a hand to qualify for the "lo" it must contain 5 cards of Eight or lower, with no pairs. If there is no hand of this nature then the player with the highest hand wins the whole pot. Having a general grip on stud poker rules will help you develop quickly with this version.

7-Card Stud

This game starts with each player receiving three cards - two face down and one face up. Players can either call, raise or fold. The betting starts from the person who has the lowest card face up. The next round starts when all the bets are over. Three cards are then dealt to each player face up and another betting round ensues. The betting now starts with the person who has the best face up hand. This is followed by another round of betting after the last (seventh) card is dealt face down.
The last play of the game is called the showdown. This is where all the players who are left in the game will show their cards. There will be players who have folded. The player with the best hand is the player who wins the pot. A good tip is to remember the folded cards along the way so that you can eliminate certain cards that you may have wanted.

5-Card Stud Poker

The game starts off with a small bet that is known as an ante. Players are then dealt two cards each - one face up and one face down. The face down card is known as a pocket card. As in 7-card stud poker, the player with the lowest face up card on the table has to start the betting. The betting round then continues with the player to the immediate left of the player who has placed the first bet. Players can choose between folding, calling and betting.

The next round of betting continues with players each being dealt another card face up. This pattern carries until each poker player at the table (those who have not folded their hands) has 4 cards - one face down and 4 face up.

Players should always watch which cards are on the table and which cards have been folded because this will help eliminate the cards that they need. This takes some concentration, but is well worth the effort. The player who wins the pot is the player with the best 5-card poker hand.

One of the great things about poker is that it has clearly evolved over time. One of the best examples of this is the stud poker rules as they have clearly adapted as people have sought to add variation and differnt elements to card games.

Guide to Successful Poker Playing For Beginners

When starting out playing Poker, often players will have a hard time adjusting to the game and find themselves out of pocket on more than one occasion. However, if you follow the three simple tips presented here, you'll be on the road to success in no time. These three core Poker skills are; mathematics, discipline, and psychology. Mastering these skills will mean you'll be able to read game situations and be able to capitalise on those moments that would have otherwise passed you by.

The first skill that needs to be mastered is basic mathematics. A solid Poker player will know the probabilities within the game, and of specific card matchups. Along with all other card games Poker is based largely on statistics and probabilities. Knowing when to fold and call the bet becomes second nature when understanding the probability behind hitting the flush or river card. Poor poker players disregard this aspect of the game, and thus suffer the consequences. Don't be one of these players and make sure you understand the probabilities and thrive under it.

The second skill you should be focusing on is discipline. Poker is a game of great patience and for that patience you need strong discipline. Don't play loose and take unnecessary gambles when the situation does not warrant it. A disciplined player understands when to play or when to fold their cards; they build an understanding of the game and only play when they have the advantage.

Last but most definitely not least is psychology. Reading your opponents and predicting their next moves is arguably the most important of all skills. Understanding what opposing players have in their hands, what they think you have, and what they think you think they have. Accurately predicting these three can give you a massive advantage over the other players. This is even more important in no-limit games to limit games, as bluffing is more prevalent.

Consider these three key poker skills and build upon them to really impress your friends at the next poker night. Start bossing games and building sizeable pot leads, which will in turn give you more experience to improve upon. Hopefully this article has provided you with the necessary information to further your game and most of all enjoy yourself!

How to Use Online Poker RNG Secrets

Although a large number of people play Texas holdem online everyday, many of those players do not have a thorough understanding of how the online game differs from a live game. The most significant difference is the computer-generated codes used in the online Poker RNG, and how those codes affect the outcome of each hand.

Primarily, since Poker sites do not have the ability to actually deal out cards as in a live game, they are forced to use a series of computer generated programs to execute this task. One of the main programs used is a RNG (Random Number Generator). The RNG, depending on which site, uses a series of associated techniques to attempt to generate a truly random shuffled deck of cards.

Because of the advanced techniques poker sites use to arrive at their own shuffled deck sequence, it is nearly impossible to predict what cards are coming out and what your opponents are holding. However, it is not difficult to predict the play and expected outcome in many situations.

Although every major poker site will claim their RNG program is fair and impervious to any potential hijacking or cracking, the reality is that the RNG is often not the culminating factor in what will occur on the flop, river or turn. That decision is based largely on additional factors, such as the players in the game, additional poker algorithms used to induce action and finally on the poker sites own use of anti-collusion and anti-cheating subroutines.

The addition of these extraneous programs, algorithms, and subroutines dramatically changes the outcome of each hand and ultimately changes the true statistical odds. For example, in a recent independent study of more than 250,000 hand histories from one poker site revealed that hands that were a major underdog on the flop made a winning hand by the river more than 20% of the time.

That percentage represents a large amount of bad beats in poker that is not usually evident in live play. This has prompted many poker players to conclude that online poker is rigged and that the RNG is flawed. In truth, the RNG is rarely ever flawed, as the RNG is not responsible for potential bad beats as much as the additional poker algorithms used by many sites.

The secret to using the online poker RNG is to be aware of the potential hands that can be made on the flop and the potential of your hand to survive a bad beat. In many cases, knowing when a flush is expected to occur while you are holding two pair may prompt you to avoid committing too many chips to the pot.

The perfect strategy to use is to learn how the software works, to obtain as much information on the statistics of the game and use that information to make your decision as to whether you should continue in the hand or not. The best defense to maintain your chipstack is in avoiding getting a bad beat, and that can easily be accomplished by understanding how and when a bad beat may occur.

Online Poker Basics

One of the greatest innovations of mankind is Poker, as it is probably the most popular type of card game ever invented. It is played by betting on the value of a card combination in your possession, which is called a "hand," and placing that bet in a central pot. The winner usually is the one who has the highest hand or whoever makes the other players fold, either by bluff or by an aggressive transparency.

But of course, you already know that, being the wily and cunning Poker player that you are.

However, there is much to say about online poker gaming and how it is strikingly identical and at the same time different from a real poker game. Below are some information about online poker that should serve as a guide for beginners:

First, online poker is played the same way as, for the lack of a better term, offline poker. The rules are pretty much the same, save some regulations imposed by individual poker site owners, which are not very often. Most of the time, the rules on Texas Holdem, Stud, or Draw poker are essentially the same online.

Second, since it is online, it transcends national boundaries and you can play against anyone who has an Internet connection anywhere in the world. Online poker also has the attributes of a normal chat room, were people can interact the way they do on most chat sites. While you can play against some of the worlds best poker players, the downside is that you are also exposed to playing with the worst. Don't you just hate it when you see amateurs hitting in the flop?

Third, you can play for real money or just play money. Most poker sites have their own system of how players can play for real money. Some use credit cards, money orders, bank transfers and the like. If you are going to play for real money, just make sure you play in a credible poker site. Joining one can sometimes be complicated. So be sure to visit the FAQs section of the site and read their terms and conditions carefully. But if you don't plan on playing for real money, then you can still enjoy online poker.

Fourth, one of the main differences of online and offline poker is that you cannot see your opponents in the game. You cannot see their "tells," which means you cannot estimate if a player is bluffing or if he really has a good hand. You cannot see your opponent flinch at your bet, or at the flop. However, you can still observe their betting patterns, and that is where you unleash your poker skills.

Now that you have learned some of the basics of online poker, then you are good to go. The key to online poker is the same as it is in offline games: you should not overdo it. Take everything in moderation and be sure to choose the right poker site to trust your money with. Who knows, the next time you go all in online, you might just win the big pot.

Understanding How Online Poker Site Program Software Works

It is obvious that there are several differences in an online Poker room and a live Poker Casino. Most of these differences are easily seen and transparent to the general poker playing public. However, many contrasts are not visible or apparent while playing poker online. The major variance between online poker and live Casino poker is the cards and how they are delivered to the player.

There are great advantages to playing in a live Casino as the integrity of the game is rarely put into question, since the shuffling, the dealing and the 'eye in the sky' keeps the game fair and makes it nearly impossible to compromise that integrity. However, online poker lacks many of these protections for the player, in that a computer program achieves the shuffling and dealing of the cards.

Therefore, an understanding of how online poker sites software program works is crucial to any player that desires to put money into an online poker account in the hopes of building a bankroll and cashing out. Simply because, if you understand how the software works, you can be assured that you are not subjected to illicit attempts by other players, the poker room or even the software to cheat you out of your hard earned money.

All online poker sites use a variation of a random number generator to create a shuffled deck. Although this may appear to be sufficient, many times over the last several years, theses shuffling algorithms were broken and subsequently gave cheaters an opportunity to exploit the game and other players. The discovery of the cheaters by affected poker sites, prompted them to create additional poker algorithms to prevent attempts at cheating and colluding.

Those algorithms would control the action at a table to ensure that one player is not able to win every single hand as was the case in the Absolute poker scandal. In that instance, a single player won nearly 98% of all hands played in a major tournament, beating out several hundred other players. Mathematically it is impossible to win every hand in a tournament, and therefore the poker sites installed software to prevent this from happening.

In addition, the online poker sites software programs is able to detect a player who may be colluding with another player and therefore the program has the ability to alter the outcome of the cards to prevent that player from winning. This same software has the ability to detect poker bots as well. In the case of a poker bot, the software will take into consideration every individual action by a player and logically compare that to determine if the player in fact is a bot or a real person.

The problem with these additional poker algorithms is that they inherently affect a skilled player's ability to consistently cash. The fact that any alteration to the statistical outcome of poker hands is tantamount to cheating by the house. In other words, it is no different than if a live dealer were setting the deck to allow a particular player to win or force a player to lose.

So, what can we do as poker players to ensure we are getting a fair game and not subjected to subversive online poker software programs that essentially change the outcome? One solution is to learn the patterns and flaws in the software and then adjust your game to circumvent their detection and of course, the other answer is to only play live poker at a trusted casino.

How To Beat Online Poker Algorithms

It is a well-known fact that online Poker sites use algorithms to control the random generation of Poker hands. That fact has caused many players to question the veracity and accuracy of true statistical odds in Texas holdem sites. However, there are ways to beat the Poker algorithms as this article will reveal.

Some will question why does the worst hand win on online poker, especially after receiving a bad beat. However, the reality is not that the worst poker hand always wins, the truth is that the online-poker algorithms are designed to make a deterministic result according to normalized odds.

Poker Statistics

What that basically means is that the statistical norms for any poker hand must be maintained in order for the game to appear fair. For example in a 7 card game such as Texas Holdem (2 hole cards and 5 cards on the community board), there are a total of 133,784,560 possible combinations that can be made. (Although holdem only uses the best 5 cards, 7 cards are available to make up the best 5 card hand. Therefore, the statistical probabilities are derived from all 7 cards).

Of the 133,784,560 combinations, a flush will statistically be dealt out 4,047,644 times, (or 3.025494% of the time). Therefore, in order to appear random, the online poker algorithms will ensure that across all poker tables over time, a flush will certainly occur 3.025494% of the time. Notwithstanding the fact that the flush could actually occur 20 or 30 times consecutively at your poker table, as long as the long-term statistical odds are maintained.

Poker Bad Beats

For this reason, you may witness too many suckouts in online poker and even become a victim of a bad beat. The fact is that true randomness is unattainable in a computer generated game such as online-poker and additional poker algorithms were put in place to maintain an air of integrity and randomness. Although it is unfair that poker sites are using these poker codes to make the game appear fair and subsequently create a large number of bad beats, there is a solution that allows you to do something about it.

That solution is to learn how the online poker algorithms work and how you can potentially avoid a poker bad beat. As the poker site must maintain statistically normalized odds by using algorithms, you can use those same odds to prevent losing.

Math and Poker Algorithms

By taking a mathematical approach to the online poker game, you can beat the computer generated poker hands and ultimately become a much better player. The problem is in the poker algorithms and the solution is in knowing HOW they work.

Online Poker Cheats - Beating the Software

Ever since the advent of online Poker, numerous claims have surfaced on methods to crack or hack the software that runs the sites in an effort to help players win through online Poker cheats. Most of these claims center on the Random Number Generator (RNG), and exploiting the vulnerabilities of the RNG.

However, the RNG is as impervious as Fort Knox, and attempts to predict or hack a poker site RNG is at best a fantasy. Yet, there are ways to exploit the software used in Online Poker and to actually use these inherent flaws to beat the online poker games.

The reason it is impossible to break the RNG is that the seed used by the online poker rooms can be as varied as using a white noise generator, advanced algorithms to select that seed number and constant changing of the seed number at intermittent intervals.

The mistake many people make is they believe the RNG is the culprit in determining the outcomes of hands. In reality, the RNG is only responsible for selecting a shuffled deck of cards; while associated subroutines and algorithms are the actual deterministic factors in the outcome of a hand.

Knowing what these additional subroutines and algorithms are doing is the secret to being able to crack the code to online poker and produce winning outcomes for you. It is important to understand that the fallacy that the RNG determines the outcome is what poker sites would like players to believe. After all, if players knew how to avoid bad beats, how to deliver bad beats and how to guarantee deeper cashes and bigger wins, the game would not appear to be fair.

Think how much more fair the game would be if your opponent's flush draw didn't get there every time on the river, or if your KK was not always up against AA, or even better if your Aces did not constantly get cracked by donkey plays.

There is some truth to the worst hand winning consistently, however, if you know how it happens and why the program does this, you are able to manipulate the software to your advantage and score more wins!

Winning Omaha Poker Playing Strategy

When you are playing an Omaha high-low game you must keep in mind that you have to win the whole pot by winning as well the high as the low. Some players play to win something and this way they don't get the whole bid, they split it with other players at the table and this should not be your goal because you might end up losing more money than you actually win. Winning both the high and the low will have to make you very selective with the hands you play firstly and with the cards you still keep playing after the flop.

Select the hands that you play and never start playing with a hand that is too risky and with low winning odds. If you however spot a hand that is likely to scoop the pot, they you should definitely play it no matter the risks. Also first you have to select the table you will play in. Play only tables that are loose, where one or more weak players are present or at least tables that rank below your average Poker table. Calculate the pot odds frequently and see if a call is necessary or not.

Raising before the flop should be done very rarely if not never. It is risky and this is not a game of risks. Remembering that you have to scoop the flop will keep you from doing this bet unless you are absolutely sure is will bring you the entire pot. If your flop is good however, then start an aggressive playing manner and give it everything you have (not money but Poker skills).

Once you find yourself on the flop you can see enough cards to realize whether you are going to win both the high and the low. You must be ready to fold here whenever necessary.

Bluffing in an Omaha high-low game should be done rarely and only sometimes on the river only if you don't see any low hands out.
You can play average starting hands when you are in late position and more players have already called.

Some things that are considered mistakes and you should never do in this game are the following:

- Too many hands played.

- Going through with it when the hand only has a potential for either the high or the low.

- Raising in flop with a good hand will make others fold and the pot won't be as big as expected.

- Raising the flop when you have a low or high hand and the cards drawn are the exact opposite of your hand.

Poker - Four Ways to Improve Your Hand Reading Ability

Hand reading is about trying to narrow down the range of hands an opponent is playing against you. If you can improve your hand reading ability you will improve your results at the Poker table.

Here are some exercises to help improve your hand reading ability.

Importantly, You will lose your money in some of these exercises, so select lower limits. However, don't let the blind levels be so low that no one ever folds to a raise pre-flop.

1. Play a low blind, limit Poker cash game and raise every hand pre-flop. This will put you in a situation where the action and play revolves around you. You will feel the power of being in charge. It will also put you in the position of having to make difficult decisions.

2. Play in a small no-limit Poker tournament, and raise pre-flop once out of every three hands. Again, you will see how players respond to you. You will learn to be creative and build your hand reading skills.

3. Watch a table of limit or no-limit poker for an hour and try to identify betting patterns and put players on hands. Think about how you would have played against players, or what you would have done. This is easier to do online.

4. Do some player mapping. The next time you play in a tournament, actually write down notes about your opponents, especially their betting patterns. See if they hold true, and if it helps you to play better. Again, this is easier to do online.

As you get better at putting your opponents on hands, your poker results will also improve.

Tips for Playing Better Poker

Poker has been gaining such popularity lately that many people are looking for the secrets of the pros to help them play a better game. Countless books and shows and web pages have been created to help people play better Poker.

Whether you are playing at the Casino or in a regular weekly game, you want to know the techniques that will make your game that much better.

There is one secret of the pros that is important for every poker player to know. It doesn't matter if you're playing Texas hold em' on a televised celebrity match, or seven card stud in the Casino, or five card draw with a bunch of buddies at your house. This is one of the main secrets that pros use:

· "Play tight."

The term "playing tight" means that you should fold bad hands quickly and aggressively play good hands. If you have a bad hand, get out early. Don't try to wait it out and hope that the cards will turn your way. They rarely do. However, if you have a good hand, stay in and bet high. Your high bets will drive out the weaker players and still raise the pot to make up for the small losses that chipped away at your pile of cash through the evening. In fact, a good player may only play a couple hands in an entire evening, but if they play tight they can still win.

So what is a good hand and what are other ways to help you play tight poker? It depends on the game you're playing. Here are some suggestions, although these are just guidelines and not everyone will agree.

· If you are playing Texas Hold 'em, stay in if you are dealt a good black jack hand on your two down. If not, get out.

· If you are playing five card stud, stay in if you are dealt a pair. You may want to stay in if you are dealt an Ace, but you're taking a risk. Otherwise, get out.

· No matter how tempting it is, don't hold out for a straight! If you're trying to build a straight, fold because the chances are slim.

· If you are playing draw poker, keep the required amount plus a "kicker" card, which will throw off your opponents as to what you have. And you'll be surprised at how often that kicker will help you win the pot.

· Don't bluff. If you are great at bluffing, you may want to do it occasionally, but most people are terrible at it. What's more, in many friendly games, people will pay to see if you're bluffing because the stakes are low, so if you gain a reputation for never bluffing you will also gain a reputation for going big only when you have a good hand.

Practice Poker

Thinking of striking it big in the Poker leagues? You might be in for a surprise, and a rather unpleasant one at that. Playing Poker offline is the same with playing online with one major difference: you cannot see your opponents. Maybe you think you are well versed in common Poker strategies such as bluffing or slow playing, you could be, offline. Playing online is strikingly different because you do not get to see your opponents face to face. You can only observe their behaviour with regards to playing their hand. So before you set out to play poker online, it would be good if you practice poker first.

I know, I know you might be a champ in your neighbourhood poker competitions or in your state play offs. But if this is your first time to play poker online, you might be in for a big surprise. Do not get this wrong, playing online is exciting and challenging, but the lack of face to face encounter severely alters a player strategy. Thinking of calling a bluff online? Well, you should think again. That other person from Hong Kong or Russia might be up to something and you will not know it because you cannot see them.

Even if you have been playing poker for the better half of your life and have come to believe that you are really good at it, you should first test the waters and practice poker before diving headlong into something you might not expect. It is true; countless others have made this mistake and did not care to practice poker first before betting their life savings and all.

You are smarter than that and you will not call on that bluff.

In the real world, poker is a game of suave and elegance. You try to outwit the other by looking confident and composed even if the hand dealt to you is terrible. In online poker however, no amount of posturing will guarantee a victory. You can pose all you want in front of the computer and still not be able to call a bluff. Practice poker online before you do anything else. You might save a lot of money and gain some valuable experience.

AOL Texas Hold Em Poker - Is AOL Texas Hold EM Poker Any Good And Are There Better Games Out There?

You would expect AOL Texas Hold Em Poker to be quite a popular platform for Poker. The reason being since the game is part of a giant internet services and media company you would expect it to have a massive following.

At it's peak AOL had over 30 million subscribers. One would expect with those numbers that it's poker game would have hundreds of thousands of players.

That sadly isn't the case. AOL Texas Hold Em poker did not make an impact on the game. I will explain why in a minute but first I will explain what it is all about.

AOL is home to one of the world's largest online communities. You would expect this to be a natural home for an online poker game. As a result of the large community they did create poker rooms for their members and it is free to play.

You have the choice to play no limit or limit Texas Hold Em. You can play either the single or multi player version. They have low stakes, high stakes and super high stakes. They even have their own tournaments.

In theory you would expect this to be very popular. However, that is far from the case. The problem is very few players participate. For example, at the time of writing this article there are only 72 players taking part in the Limit room and 1,4370 in the No Limit room. Even the latter number is not impressive.

The reason being is it gets overshadowed by Bebo Texas Hold Em and Facebook Texas Hold Em. Both of these social networks have millions of players taking part in their poker rooms. And at any given time you got hundreds of thousands if not over a million players taking part. This makes AOL look like peanuts.

One of the reasons the social networks attract more players is because more people are connected to the social networks. The days of AOL are outnumbered. People no longer participate in this online community and have opted to be a part of Facebook instead.

Another reason for it's minuscule success is because some people say the game is not realistic. A few players claim cheating is taking place. For example, one common claim is they would have scores of poor hands which is not mathematically possible in poker. It doesn't seem to reflect reality.

If AOL Texas Hold Em poker wants to have a fighting chance against the social networks it will have to upgrade it's software and provide perks and rewards to the players. Perhaps even have a poker tutorial would be useful.

However, if you are serious about mastering your online poker and want to get to the point where you can win big money then an online community nor the social networks I going to be the place for you to play. You are not going to make any money there.

Poker Table Drop Boxes

The Poker table drop box is a commonly used device for storing money and keeping the game running smoothly. Despite its common use it is often misunderstood exactly how this device works unless you have seen one up close and personal. There are several unique features to making the drop box system work.

The first feature is the dual key system. The drop box comes with two different keys. One key is used to open up the side of the box to remove the money and the other key is used to remove the drop box from the table itself. This allows a cage manager (Money person) to be a different person from the dealer.

The physical layout of the box contains two different openings. The side opening has a separate key and is where the money is removed from the box. The top of the box also has an opening. This is where the money from the table is inserted. Before the drop box is inserted into the table the top part of the drop box is opened and remains that way until a key is inserted. When the top of the box is opened and inserted into the table there is a small latch that gets triggered. When the latch is triggered the box is secured to the table and cannot be removed unless someone has a key. Interestingly, once the key is turned to release the drop box the top hole, which is spring loaded, shuts automatically. This prevents anyone from removing any money from the box. It also enables the person removing the money to be different from the person placing it in the box.

Beginners Guide of Online Poker

How to Play Poker Online

Players who are new to Poker may be wondering if fold means bending or a small blind is a small guy who's blind. It is also possible that you have been playing land-based Poker for some time now so at least you know some Poker lingo but haven't really started playing online yet. Either way it is important to learn how poker rooms over the Internet work by observing proper protocol and procedures at the onset. Currently, Texas Hold'em is one of the most popular poker variations you can find over the Internet. Here are some things you should keep in mind when you start sitting down in one of the poker rooms.

Best Game for Beginners

Many individuals watch poker tournaments over national television and this has led to the popularity of Texas Hold'em. These matches are generally No Limit games which are not necessarily the best game for you right now. As a beginner, it would be best to start playing with low limit games first where betting rounds are more structured and bets have limits for each round. Most of poker games with low limits come with betting structures of $2-4, $3-6 and $4-8. This helps you gain better control of your bankroll as you learn. But as you gain more experience while playing low limit poker games, you may then move up to games with higher limits for a shot at bigger pots.

Games for Fun and More

Online poker is very friendly with novice players. You will find numerous resources at your disposal that can help you get started with practicing poker games online without as much chips involved just to learn the game. There are articles from pro players one could read on or live help from customer support who can help you figure out which buttons to push on the page and more.

It is also recommended that you try playing poker games for free/fun. With this functionality, online Casinos provide poker players a way to play a game of poker to learn the ropes of the game without going to the cashier to fund an account yet. These games help you with basic strategies to practice on and see where it is best applied. You can practice on the advice you read regarding positioning and how it affects your bets and so on and so forth. Take the time to master the game and you will find a good place to enjoy while earning at the same time with poker games.

Texas Hold'em Poker- Vegas Baby - Vegas

Vegas has always been the Mecca of Poker. Since online Poker has taken off, the No-Limit Texas Hold'em tables have been filled with weak Poker players. Read a couple of poker books, play some online poker, and you will destroy any low-limit table. The lower-limits consist of 1/2NL tables with maximum buy-ins ranging from $100 to $300. On any given night, you could easily win $200 by playing basic poker. You don't need to be Phil Ivey or Mike Matusow to win at poker. Most of your opponents will be too lazy to pick up a book and learn how to play the game. The poker rooms are always filled with players who have no clue what they are doing. Many of the players are on vacation hoping to win some cash playing poker.

Poker is a game of skill and the best players win in the long run. Hone your poker skills and you will crush these low limit games. During the day, you can destroy your opponents at the poker tables for an easy profit. At night, you can take your free money to the best night-clubs in the world. Forget about waiting in line for hours, just take your winnings and make friends with the bouncers. Bottle service is awaiting you with your own private booth. The best part about Vegas is that you are free rolling with poker winnings. Not anyone can go to Vegas and say they made a profit. Poker is a great game with many monetary benefits. Work on your poker game and you can party hard every night in Vegas. On the flight home you will be saying Vegas Baby! Vegas!

Winning in Internet Poker

When people speak of Internet Poker, there is one name that cuts above the rest of the Poker variants - the Texas Hold'em Poker game. This variant of poker is considered to be the most popular type being played in the online Casinos. The same popularity also extends to television and the World Tour of Poker.

Put simply, Texas Hold'em involves fours rounds of betting: the first after the hands of two cards have been dealt; the second after a "flop" of three cards has been dealt on the table; the third and fourth after "turn" and "river" cards have been dealt on the table. The object is to get the best standard poker hand of five cards, using any of the five table cards or the two cards in hand.

While all poker game variants involve a lot of psychological play - and Texas Hold'em is certainly not an exception - it is possible to play winning poker with a purely mathematical strategy. The sheer amount of players online ensures that you can cash in on the bad players: the gamblers.

Playing winning Internet poker involves getting rid of the gambler's instinct and concentrating on the game. While it involves mathematics, the concepts are easy enough for anyone to understand. Even simply picking the starting hands according to a set table gives one a great edge against poor players.

There are many different styles of play: loose or tight, based on how many hands one is willing to play; aggressive or passive, based on how easily one bets or folds. Almost any combination can win. The style of play best suited for winning depends on the person. However, it is usually best to start with a tight-aggressive strategy, especially before one grasps the finer points of Hold'em.

Playing positions matter a lot in Hold'em. The dealer plays last after the first round and is in the worst position. The blinds are early positions as is the next one, which is called "under the gun". Which positions are middle and which late depends on the number of players.

Hands are often written in shorthand like K7 for king and seven off-suit and A9s for ace-nine suited. A basic guide to starting hands that suits this style of play is the following: play AA, KK, AKs and QQ from any position; play AQs, JJ, AK, TT and AJs from mid to late position; and play mid pairs and high ace-suits from dealer position, when you get the chance.

Hold'em becomes much more complicated at later stages and higher levels of play, but even this amount of information gives an edge about some players. To play winning Internet poker one has to stop gambling and start playing strategy. Play solid strategy and rest assured: at the end of the day, the best player will win.

Poker Terminology & The Origin of Poker Slang

Where Poker Comes From

The origin of Poker is the subject of much debate. All claims, and there are many, have been widely disputed by historians and other experts the world over. That said, among the most credible claims are that Poker was invented by the Chinese in around 900AD, possibly deriving from the Chinese equivalent of dominos. Another theory is that Poker originated in Persia as the game 'as nas', which involved five players and required a special deck of 25-cards with five suits. To support the Chinese claim there is evidence that, on New Year's Eve, 969, the Chinese Emperor Mu-Tsung played "domino cards" with his wife. This may have been the earliest version of poker.

Cards have tentatively been dated back to Egypt in the 12th and 13th century and still others claim that the came originated in India as Ganifa, but there is little evidence that is conclusive.

In the United States history, the background of poker is much better known and recorded. It emerged in New Orleans, on and around the steamboats that trawled up and down the Mississippi and Ohio rivers. The game then spread in very direction across the country - north, south, east, and west - until it was an established popular pastime.

Popular Poker Terms and Definitions

Ante: a forced bet; each player places an equal amount of money or chips into the pot before the deal begins. In games where the acting dealer changes each turn, it is not uncommon for the players to agree that the dealer provides the ante for each player. This simplifies betting, but causes minor inequities if other players come and go or miss their turn to deal.

Blind or blind bet: a forced bet placed into the pot by one or more players before the deal begins, in a way that simulates bets made during play.

Board: (1) set of community cards in a community card game. (2) The set of face-up cards of a particular player in a stud game. (3) The set of all face-up cards in a stud game.

Bring In: Open a round of betting.

Call: match a bet or a raise.Door Card: In a stud game, a player's first face-up card. In Hold'em, the door card is the first visible card of the flop.Fold: Referred to sometimes as 'the fold'; appears mostly as a verb meaning to discard one's hand and forfeit interest in the pot. Folding may be indicated verbally or by discarding cards face-down.High-low split games are those in which the pot is divided between the player with the best traditional hand, high hand, and the player with the lowest hand. Live Bet: posted by a player under conditions that give the option to raise even if no other player raises first.

Live Cards: In stud poker games, cards that will improve a hand that have not been seen among anyone's upcards. In games such as Texas hold'em, a player's hand is said to contain "live" cards if matching either of them on the board would give that player the lead over his opponent. Typically used to describe a hand that is weak, but not dominated.

Maniac: Lose and aggressive player; generally a player who bets constantly and plays many inferior hands. Nut hand: Sometimes referred to as the nuts, is the strongest possible hand in a given situation. The term applies mostly to community card poker games where the individual holding the strongest possible hand, with the given board of community cards, has the nut hand.

Rock: very tight player who plays very few hands and only continues to the pot with strong hands.

Split: Divide the pot among two or more players rather than awarding it all to a single player is known as splitting the pot. There are several situations in which this occurs, including ties and in the various games of intentional split-pot poker. Sometimes it is necessary to further split pots; commonly in community card high-low split games such as Omaha Holdem, where one player has the high hand and two or more players have tied low hands.

Three Pair: A Phenomenon of seven card versions of poker, such as seven card stud or Texas Holdem, it is possible for a player to have three pairs, although a player can only play two of them as part of a standard 5-card poker hand. This situation may jokingly be referred to as a player having a hand of three pair.

Under the Gun: The playing position to the direct left of the blinds in Texas Holdem or Omaha; act first on the first round of betting.

Playing Poker Freeroll Tournaments

Freeroll tournaments are probably the best way to increase your Poker skills without putting wagers. There is no entry fee to join an online freeroll tournament even though you have a chance of winning real money. The prizes at offer are usually lower than those in paid tournaments but even so, most online Casinos offer them with decent prizes and good value. You should do some research as to which of them offers the biggest prize pools before playing in one of them.

They offer much better game quality because players aren't just pushing all-in every hand. Players have the chance of actually winning something and are thus more likely to therefore think twice before making a move. Quite simply, play-money games can be referred to as just card games whereas freeroll tournaments offer real Poker. When people are playing play-money games, they push in chips with any holding of their choice. They are thus more interested in seeing the cards on the table and see if they can win something.

Freeroll tournaments are a great way to improve your playing skills as well. You are playing with people who are serious about winning and do not just push all-in every hand they have.

It allows you to play real Poker for free. Although you need to wait till a tournament starts, they offer real enjoyment, strategic game play from players and a chance to win big. The mere fact that you can win real money at freeroll makes it a very attractive option in comparison to play-money games. The game play is also much better than in play-money games.

11.5g Winning Hands Casino Poker Chips Review

I found the neatest Casino Quality Poker Chips that look especially sharp in a contemporary Poker room. They are a white resin Poker chip with black detailing and the weighted center insert has an Ace high straight flush. It doesn't get much better than that. Of course that's how they got their name, 11.5g Winning Hands Casino Poker Chips.

The 1" graphic inlay gives it a sleek look and the texture make these flawless Real Casino Poker Chips that look good and play just as good as any of the Las Vegas Casino Poker Chips on the market. I remember when I first saw them on the Internet- I knew they would make the perfect gift for my father, since he was a poker playing fool.

I had been helping redecorate the lower level of their house to update it to a more contemporary look for our upcoming family Christmas celebration. Since the fireplace and family room was down there, that's where everybody would get together for our poker games. Of course, his friends would come over and play on weekends, so it would help to have a space besides the dining room table.

For Christmas, I got them a nice, black leather padded poker table and these 11.5g Winning Hands Casino Poker Chips were the perfect match. I had already chosen a black, white and red primary color scheme for redecorating, and these casino poker chips were just the accessory the room needed. We had the white flocked Christmas tree in the corner with the red twinkling lights and this red felt table with the black leather chairs and padding were just waiting for some players to start clicking these contemporary black and white Las Vegas style poker chips.

You can't imagine his surprise when I popped them out of the box and starting stacking them on the table. I was going to surprise him with the reveal of his new poker room, but it surpassed what I thought it would end up looking like. Those 11.5g Winning Hands Casino Poker Chips sat on that red felt table with that black leather padding and it looked too pretty to even play on. He was so ecstatic and the whole family was in awe of the look of the new poker room. We could hardly wait to get a good game of Texas Hold'em going just so we could try out the table and the chips.

It sure beat playing on the dining room table, once we had piled the dishes in the sink. Those Old Casino Poker Chips that we used to play with would roll across the table and fall onto the floor all of the time. These heavier, professional feeling chips not only felt heavier, but were much easier to control when we were playing and shuffling them around on the felt. Dad won that Hold'em game on his new table, with his new chips, and he swears it was those 11.5g Winning Hands Casino Poker Chips were the reason. He might be right.
